Event: Cattle on cover crops.
November 6th. Near Aylsham, Norfolk.
On the 6th of November 2024 we welcomed 30 guests to view our herd on cover crops. The day started with a series of presentations in the upstairs room at Blickling Hall. Ursula Taylor from the Stabiliser Cattle Company discussed the Stabiliser breed, Andrew Spinks talked about how the cattle are managed, and Rhidian Jones of RJ Livestock Systems spoke about feeding and management of cover crops. Outwintering cattle on cover crops, compared to having them in a shed, is a much more economical way of keeping them over winter. Mill Meadow Stabiliser cattle are the perfect animals for the system.
We went outside to view cattle on a local arable farmers field, we are grazing their mixed cover crop, Rhidian discussed the best way of managing the feeding of the cattle. James Spinks discussed the agronomy of the cover crop.
The group then went to view weaned bull calves and stock bulls at Orchard Farm, whilst others went to see the rest of the herd in the sheds at Oxnead.
